AFSCME’s Saunders: White House executive orders are attacks on the entire labor movement
WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s executive orders:
“With the stroke of a pen, we are now on a path toward a dark era where we are not judged on our merit, but based on our race, religion, where we were born and who we love. The executive orders don’t just stop at ending protections against discrimination for federal workers; they encourage even private sector employers to deny that diversity makes our nation stronger.“The labor movement knows better. We know that having immigrants and people of all backgrounds with us at the table makes our communities stronger. This is how we grew the middle class, closed pay gaps and lowered unemployment. But these executive orders – ripped straight from Project 2025 – are clearly meant to divide us and make it easier for billionaires to take control of our economic future. We won’t let them. History gives us the blueprint to fight back against fear and hate, and proves that when we come together, we can win.”
