SCOTUS DACA decision a strong step, but comprehensive immigration reform needed

WASHINGTON — AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to block the Trump administration from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling reassures Dreamers that the United States of America is their home and that they are welcome. While the decision by the court is a strong step, we must remember that the Trump administration and its allies believe the only way for them to stay in power is through demagoguery and demonization of people of color. There are still plenty of members of Congress of good character on both sides of the aisle, and we urge them to pass comprehensive immigration reform to end the cruel attacks on immigrants from their own government once and for all.”
