AFSCME Stands in Solidarity with West Virginia Teachers

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement in support of the West Virginia public school teachers strike that began today:

“Once again, West Virginia politicians are trying to starve their schools of the resources needed to give children the quality public education they deserve. These actions are no doubt in retaliation for teachers striking in 2018 to demand those very resources.

“But West Virginia teachers are undaunted. For the second time in a year, they are standing up for their students and their communities, demonstrating their power in numbers through bold collective action. AFSCME stands with our West Virginia sisters and brothers in the struggle to ensure that teachers have the tools they need to do one of society’s toughest, most important jobs.”
