AFSCME: Amazon Announcement Shows Power of Collective Action

WASHINGTON —

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement regarding Amazon’s announcement that it will pay its employees a minimum of $15 per hour:

“Amazon’s decision to raise wages for its workers is a testament to the power of collective action. The thousands of working people who have joined together to demand $15 and a union should take pride in this victory, and working families everywhere must keep up the pressure for a seat at the table and a union contract. As public support for unions remains at a 15-year high, and working people recommit to their unions and launch new organizing drives in droves, leaders from state capitals to Washington to corporate board rooms should take notice: America’s working people know their own value and know the value of a strong union.”
