‘Nurse Bob’ recognized for helping vulnerable Ohioans access health care they need

To Robert Holomuzki, his job is more than just a job.

A registered nurse for Columbus Public Health in Ohio, he’s on a mission to provide much-needed health care to vulnerable populations who lack access to the medical care they need.

“My job has a lot to do with health screenings, connecting people in the community with health resources and wellness initiatives for those who are underserved or don’t have access to as many medical services as they need,” Holomuzki says. “Community nursing is a specialty in itself.”

Known as “Nurse Bob” in the community he serves, Holomuzki also sets an example in the workplace.

“Bob represents a link to the necessary health services that this community needs,” says John Henry, a co-worker. “He’s become a friendly face that people can rely on, that people have come to know and trust. That’s really important when serving communities that have historically been marginalized or pushed to the side.”

For his service to his community, Holomuzki, a member of AFSCME Local 2191 (Ohio Council 8) is a winner of our union’s Never Quit Service Award, which recognizes public service workers who go above and beyond the call of duty to make their communities better.
