According to a recent poll, 75% of AFSCME members have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. That’s well above the national average, proving that AFSCME members are continuing to lead the way out of the pandemic.

We don’t want to stop there. We’re aiming for a goal of getting at least 80% of all AFSCME members vaccinated by July 4.

It is vitally important that we get vaccinated. Yes, it protects us and our loved ones, but it also protects the people we interact with and the communities we serve.

But it’s about more than that. AFSCME members and retirees are leaders in our communities.

As leaders, for instance, AFSCME retirees have been encouraging others to get vaccinated. AFSCME members across the country have been getting vaccinated and spreading the word about why getting vaccinated is so important. AFSCME President Lee Saunders got his vaccine as soon as he was eligible, and has encouraged others to do so as well.

When the pandemic hit, we rushed to the front lines to keep our communities safe, often putting ourselves at risk in service to others. That’s why people look up to us. It’s a big responsibility, but we are up to the challenge.

If you’re not one of the 75%, if you are still hesitant or have questions, we understand. A lot of people have had questions about the vaccines as they’ve been rolled out. But millions and millions of Americans have now received doses, and they have been proven safe and effective. The numbers of COVID-19 cases continue to dwindle because of the vaccines.

If you have any questions about the vaccines, please review our vaccine resource page.

And if you are ready to help us reach this incredible goal by getting your vaccine, let us know by taking a vaccine selfie that we can share.
