Staff support of the PEOPLE program

International Executive Board, 2001

WHEREAS:

AFSCME members' participation in the PEOPLE program is essential in aiding the Union in the protection of members' rights, jobs, wages, benefits and working conditions as well as having an important impact on its success of securing collective bargaining for our members;

WHEREAS:

AFSCME must make every effort to conduct campaigns to increase our PEOPLE activists as well as our voluntary political funds in order to help elect candidates who are supportive of the needs and concerns of AFSCME members;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That all affiliate staff be encouraged to promote the importance of the PEOPLE program especially with the locals they service, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That all affiliate staff strive to meet the Union's priority of reaching a minimum goal of 10% participation in the PEOPLE program at the VIP level. Locals currently at or above 10% participation should increase their participation an additional 5%; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That affiliate staff who are AFSCME members be encouraged to lead by example and participate in the PEOPLE program by voluntarily donating 1% of their wages to the PEOPLE program.
