Revised 2008 Incentives for PEOPLE Program

International Executive Board, 2007

WHEREAS:

The PEOPLE Program is AFSCME's political and legislative fundraising program. PEOPLE allows AFSCME members to work together in financially supporting political candidates in national elections. PEOPLE supports candidates who are in favor of legislation, funding and policies that promote quality public services at every level of government; and

WHEREAS:

The delegates to the 37th International Union convention adopted the recommendations of the 21st century committee and set a PEOPLE participation goal of 25% of membership contributing at the $100 a year level (MVP); and

WHEREAS:

The incentive program helps promote and advertise the PEOPLE program as well as show pride in the Union;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union update and change the incentive program by improving the quality of each incentive and by reducing the total number of incentives; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the International Union introduce a one-time incentive for $250 per year contributors (MVP Gold) and $500 per year contributors (MVP Platinum); and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the International Union eliminate the "VIP" program but continue to provide a one-time incentive for contributions that are $50 or more per year but less than $100 per year; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That all AFSCME PEOPLE contributors that signed up under the old incentive program, prior to the termination date, will be "grandfathered-in;" and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the new incentive program will take effect October 1, 2007 and the old program will terminate on that same date; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That the International PEOPLE Program distribute this information to all leadership of the union as soon as possible.
