WHEREAS:
Technology has provided an incredible tool for communication and interaction with AFSCME members across this great nation and abroad; and
WHEREAS:
In an effort to save both money and resources, technology  provides cost-effective and green, environmentally-friendly timely  communication and reference material; and
WHEREAS:
Issues such as online balloting for elections and  contract ratification need to be seriously explored, including cost  savings and enhanced member involvement; and
WHEREAS:
Website development has proven an incredible forum for  providing timely information to members, including forums and online  chat rooms and mass emailing communications for timely notice and green  initiatives; and
WHEREAS:
Social networking provides a complex communication tool  with both positive and negative ramifications without proper guidelines;  and
WHEREAS:
Virtual online membership meetings would provide another level of communication once proper guidelines are established.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: 
AFSCME International create a task  force with members appointed by the International President that will  review “technology utilization” and provide guidelines for this new  utilization and new means of communication and interaction with our  members; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
AFSCME will actively engage in development  and sharing of ideas to continue to build the best union in the world.  Forward thinking keeps members active and engaged as we build this next  exciting era in union activity.
