WHEREAS:

The children of AFSCME working and retiree members are eligible for AFSCME scholarship programs; and

WHEREAS:

Children for whom AFSCME members are legal guardians are also eligible for AFSCME scholarship programs; and

WHEREAS:

Many AFSCME working and retiree members are not legal guardians but have full financial responsibility for grandchildren and declare them as dependents on their federal tax return; and

WHEREAS:

These grandchildren are not currently eligible for AFSCME scholarship programs.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That members working and retired who can show full financial responsibility for grandchildren be eligible to submit the names of these grandchildren to the AFSCME scholarship programs.
