Disability Process Redesign

WHEREAS:

The Social Security Administration has initiated a disability re-engineering proposal; and

WHEREAS:

This proposal, if implemented, could result in the loss of jobs at the state level, either through federalization or abolishment; and

WHEREAS:

In the state of Ohio, disability determination officials have declined to participate in joint quality and redesign initiatives despite repeated requests by the Union to do so; and

WHEREAS:

This effort will improve service to the disabled clients without costing jobs.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME go on record opposing any effort by the Social Security Administration that will negatively affect state employees; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME advocate requirements for the involvement of unions, where employees affected by redesign are represented by a union, in the redesign of services; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That AFSCME continue working with state government through joint work redesign and the advocacy of joint quality initiatives to improve the efficiency of the operations to better serve our clientele without harming the employees who provide the service.
