AFSCME Gay and Lesbian Advisory Committee Activities

WHEREAS:

AFSCME has a long history of supporting the civil rights of all its members; and

WHEREAS:

Addressing the needs of the gay and lesbian members will make the union stronger; and

WHEREAS:

A resolution was passed at an AFSCME Convention endorsing support of federal, state, and local civil rights, laws and policies for gays and lesbians; and

WHEREAS:

There is currently a National AFSCME Gay and Lesbian Advisory Committee.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME direct the Gay and Lesbian Advisory Committee to set annual meetings with sufficient notice in order to facilitate full committee member participation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the Advisory Committee establish agenda items which are solicited from the committee; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That among the items to be considered by the Advisory Committee shall be methods of enhancing communication on current gay and lesbian issues to AFSCME membership at all levels; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the Advisory Committee shall set annual goals and objectives; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the Advisory Committee shall annually assess its progress towards addressing agenda issues and meeting established goals and objectives; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the Advisory Committee members shall receive written meeting minutes; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That AFSCME continue to dedicate part of their web site for gay and lesbian issues.
