WHEREAS:
AFSCME is known for its political clout through its activities in political campaigns, and to date, thousands of AFSCME members have voluntarily signed up for the President's Club; and
WHEREAS:
Political campaigns continue to be very expensive operations; and
WHEREAS:
Anti-union businesses, corporations, and private contractors are out-spending organized labor in the political arena; and
WHEREAS:
The Right-to-Work Foundation and the National Association of Manufacturers are two of those contributors; and
WHEREAS:
Re-election is a regular endeavor for the entire legislature and Congress; and
WHEREAS:
PEOPLE check-off is AFSCME's primary way to raise political dollars to be used as AFSCME's political contributions to campaigns of legislators and other elected officials who support AFSCME's political and legislative agenda; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME encourages its delegates and officers to urge all eligible AFSCME members to enroll in the President's Club program; and
WHEREAS:
The incentive items given the first five years of enrollment are attractive incentives for members to sign up for the President's Club.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That all the delegates to the 32nd International Convention continue to urge all eligible AFSCME members to sign up for the President's Club; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That all officers of each local union continue to intensify their efforts among their members to increase the number of members in the President's Club; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
That AFSCME expand the incentive program beyond the 5th year as further incentive for members to sign up for the President's Club and to remain in the President's Club.
