WHEREAS:
AFSCME has members in the public sector, and the private non-profit sector; and
WHEREAS:
Workers in the private non-profit sector do not have parity in wages or benefits with public sector workers; and
WHEREAS:
Public and non-profit AFSCME members must be united, and fight together to avoid the divisions that management tries to impose on us; and
WHEREAS:
As workers in the private non-profit sector we are also members of AFSCME; and
WHEREAS:
Workers in the private non-profit sector have an extremely high burnout and turnover rate due to the lack of adequate salaries, and lack of staff; and
WHEREAS:
If private non-profit workers were given parity, the government contracting out would only be used when services are not available in the public sector.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME will fight for parity in wages and benefits for AFSCME-represented private non-profit workers; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME will seek to protect AFSCME-represented private non-profit workers when fighting contracting out; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
All contracts be based on prevailing wages of public employees.
