Los Angeles, CA

WHEREAS:

Labor has the largest potential for new troops of any BSA/GSA chartering organization; and

WHEREAS:

If properly developed, this organizing resource could bring the benefits of scouting and labor's viewpoint to many youths who might not otherwise have that opportunity; and

WHEREAS:

The Labor Merit Badge is a response by the BSA/GSA to the concerns and suggestions of the BSA/GSA National Labor Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS:

Over 30,000 union members are part of the BSA/GSA's commitment to obtaining the best possible male or female leadership.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME urges its affiliates to encourage increased labor participation in the scouting program; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That current AFSCME scout leaders encourage the attainment of the Labor Merit Badge; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That AFSCME affiliates are made aware that scouting offers some solutions to the tensions which pull at our families and offers a program that develops citizens as it develops better adults.
