WHEREAS:

The past eight (8) years of the Reagan Administration has seen a full fledged effort to cut back on federal aid to education; and

WHEREAS:

There has been a total cut of 14% in federal funds over the last eight (8) years; and

WHEREAS:

It is recognized that the schools of this country are becoming educationally deficient; and

WHEREAS:

The number of dropouts have now reached huge proportions; and

WHEREAS:

The percentage of our school children.that cannot read, write, or understand basic math have not improved over the last eight (8) years.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME will support and seek the introduction of legislation to restore the cutbacks in federal aid to legislation of the last eight (8) years to the federal budget.
