WHEREAS:

AFSCME has a proud and longstanding history of leading the fight for equal rights for all people; and

WHEREAS:

The International Constitution was amended in 1980 to prohibit discrimination against gay and lesbian members; and

WHEREAS:

The Union endorsed the passage of gay and lesbian rights legislation at the 25th, 26th and 27th conventions.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees endorse the enactment of legislation at every level of government to guarantee the rights of gay and lesbian citizens; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME membership and staff support the passage of such legislation.
