Participation on College and University Labor Advisory Boards

Resolution No. 43
27th International Convention
June 23-27, 1986
Chicago, IL

WHEREAS:

Many colleges and universities throughout the country realize the necessity of establishing a closer relationship to organized workers through the creation of labor program services; and

WHEREAS:

These programs are intended to provide additional skill building for union members in coordination with trade union programs; and

WHEREAS:

Union activists are more knowledgeable than many college and university educators of the needs of our specific memberships.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That this 27th International Convention urges AFSCME members and staff to participate fully on established college and university policy, planning, and advisory boards and committees; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That in those areas where colleges and universities have not yet met their commitment to labor unions, AFSCME take the leadership in encouraging the creation of labor-oriented programming, based on the full participation, at all levels, of the labor community.
